What is PM-KUSUM?

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) is India's flagship scheme to promote solar energy use in agriculture. Launched in 2019, it aims to add 30.8 GW of solar capacity through farmer participation.

Three Components of PM-KUSUM

  • Component A: 10,000 MW of decentralised ground-mounted grid-connected solar power plants on agricultural land
  • Component B: Installation of 20 lakh standalone solar-powered agriculture pumps
  • Component C: Solarisation of 15 lakh grid-connected agriculture pumps

Subsidy Available

Under Component B and C, farmers can receive up to 60% central and state subsidy, with bank loans covering the remaining cost at subsidised interest rates. In many cases, the farmer's out-of-pocket cost is less than 10%.
