What is Virtual Net Metering?
Virtual Net Metering (VNM) is a regulatory mechanism that allows a solar power plant located at one site to credit its generation against electricity consumed at one or more different metering points — all within the same DISCOM area.
How VNM Works Under DERC
Under the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) Net Metering and Net Billing Regulations, an HT consumer can install a solar plant at a remote location (such as agricultural land or an industrial plot) and have the energy virtually credited to their factory or office meter.
- The solar plant is connected to the DISCOM grid at the generation site
- A Virtual Net Meter is installed at the consumption site
- Energy units generated are credited against units consumed
- Monthly settlement is done by the DISCOM (TPDDL/BSES)
Who Should Consider VNM?
VNM is ideal for industrial consumers who have high electricity consumption but limited rooftop space at their factory. It is also suitable for farmers who own land near grid infrastructure and want to earn solar income while retaining agricultural use.
Sunmaster's VNM Projects
Sunmaster has successfully commissioned several VNM projects under TPDDL jurisdiction, including a 2000 KWp HT VNM project for Alpasso Industries at Village Tajpur Kalan, Delhi. Our team handles the complete documentation, SLD preparation, and TPDDL filing process.
